When you think you're escaping the cold, but >> Brooklyn

Even though it seems Winter is fully upon us here in Minnesota, we were hoping to escape the chill with a weekend trip to NY, and pretend that it was still Fall. But, Mother Nature laughed in our faces with heavy winds, 20 degree temps, and even a bit of rain. What to do? Keep warm and become champions of some of our favorite things... marathon eating and wine drinking. If you weren't sure how much we loved these things before, you've now been put on notice.

The Breakdown >>

Wilma Jean // Solid happy hour wine and beer prices, along with a scrumptious fried chicken sandwich (tip: get the "deluxe").

Aiblene // Warm up by the fireplace with spiked hot apple cider and classic board games.

August Laura // A super cozy space with yummy speciality cocktails, including a divine Amaretto Sour (and no, it's not the same drink from when you were 21).

Battersby // Five course chef's tasting menu. Good, but not a must. Snag a seat at the bar instead and order a la carte.

The Good Fork // Quirky space and excellent eggs. The Bimibop and blood-orange mimosa is the only way to go.

Black Mountain Wine House // Another perfectly tiny space with a great wines.

King's Coffee // Our friend Dom's "pop-up" spot... the best coffee you'll find anywhere (but on the weekend's only).

Frankie's 457 // We were surprised to find exactly zero egg dishes on their brunch menu, but then we stuffed our faces with the best pasta and salads and forgot all about it.

169 Bar // A hipster dive bar where you can (wait for it)... order drinks by text message.

Mission Chinese Food // We didn't get to try this place, but it looked utterly quaint and intriguing, so I'm putting it here so that I remember to make a point to stop here next time ;)
